Hi, my name is Stephani McGirr, and I understand what you’re going through. When your child isn’t well, “desperate” doesn’t quite describe what it feels like to experience so much uncertainty, frustration and helplessness in your search for answers.
When my oldest of four children was diagnosed as gifted he was also labeled with sensory processing disorder (SPD), ADHD, and Aspergers (in the autism spectrum). Frustrated with the limitations of traditional medicine, I’ve spent ten years researching and implementing holistic and behavioral therapy to help my son. My research and my experience inspired Nourishing Journey.
Nourishing Journey is a place where parents of children with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorders come to get support, community and information on natural, dietary approaches to managing their child’s special needs. I combine my personal experience with reliable research to help families look beyond their child’s textbook diagnosis to uncover the potential for their child to heal naturally.
My education put me in the unique position to understand the science behind my approach from both a physiological and psychological point of view. I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology, with an emphasis in Human Anatomy and Physiology and Nutrition. I minored in child development and learning, and also completed teacher training. I have experience as a surgical assistant, as well as an instructor to a variety of ages, from preschool to high school students.
I’m originally from Texas, but have lived in Austria (my husband’s home country) for 12 years. Here we have raised our four children, ranging in age from four to eleven. Although raising a large family with the dynamic of a special needs child (and in a foreign country) poses a unique challenge, I am grateful to be living my dream: to have a large family and to work with children.
I hope that you’ll find your visit to Nourishing Journey replenishing and helpful. If you have questions as you browse the site, please contact me.
